The issue
If you’re having trouble getting your Spotify and Discord integration to work properly, you’re not alone. Recently, I added my Spotify account to my Discord account but noticed that whenever I was listening to music, it wasn’t showing up on my Discord profile. But don’t worry, I managed to fix it.
Check if accounts are linked
First things first, make sure that your accounts are actually linked. To do this, go to the bottom left of Discord, next to your username, click the “User Settings” button and then head to the “Connections” tab. Here, you should see any accounts that are linked. If your Spotify account isn’t showing up, simply click the Spotify button and it should open a new web page where you can link your two accounts.
Display status on
Next, make sure that “Displays Spotify as your status” is set to “on” in your user settings. This will show on your profile when someone views it.
Game activity set to on
If it’s still not working, try going to the “Game Activity” tab in your user settings and make sure that “Display currently running game as status message” is set to “on”.
Fix: Add Spotify as game
Adding Spotify as a game and setting it as the running game can also help. Head into Settings, then “Game Activity” and add Spotify to the list. Upon restarting Discord, you should see “Playing Spotify”, and some information about the song you’re listening to.
It’s worth noting that this method is not the actual integration, it’s just saying that I have Spotify open on my computer and you can do this with any program. However, these are the steps I took to fix the issue, and hopefully it will work for you too.
Re-add Spotify account
If none of these steps work, you may need to go back to the “Connections” tab, and remove Spotify from the list. Click the Spotify icon and link your account again, making sure it is the correct account. Then then try playing a song in Spotify again. If it still doesn’t work, you may need to try troubleshooting with Discord or Spotify’s customer support.
