Steps to remove noise from microphone audio:

Free method - Audacity

  1. Download Audacity
  2. Capture audio at the highest possible quality (if possible make sure there are 5-7 seconds of silence before or after the recording to capture the noise profile.
  3. Import to audacity
  4. Select the "silence"
  5. Click Effect > Noise Reduction and click Get Noise Profile
  6. Click Effect > Noise Reduction and click OK
  7. Enjoy audio with almost no noise (especially moments of silence in the recording)

Using your own DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) - Adobe Audition shown as an example

  1. Import audio into your DAW
  2. Select "silence" from the clip (following the guidelines from step 2 above)
  3. Click Effects > Noise Reduction / Restoration > Noise Reduction (process)
  4. Make the FFT Size and Noise Print Snapshots to the highest available (Under Noise Print Capture Settings)
  5. Click Capture Noise Print
  6. Repeat Step 3
  7. Click Select Entire File and Click Apply
  8. Enjoy audio with almost no noise (especially moments of silence in the recording)
