What’s The Issue?
As a player of the popular rhythm-based game osu!, you may have accumulated a large library of songs over time. While it’s easy to add more songs to your library, it may be difficult to restore your entire collection with all of your records and favorite maps on it. For example, if you move from one PC to another, or even just restore an old hard drive, you may be wondering how to keep all those neat maps without having to re-download them all.
Unfortunately, there is no official way supported by the game’s developers to backup and restore your osu! library. The suggested way of doing it is to go to the download sites, sort by play, and then download each one of your songs over again. However, if you have tens of thousands of songs, this will take a lot of time.
How to locate your files
There is a way to copy the beat maps directly from one PC to another. To do this, you need to open up the run box by holding the start button and pressing R, then typing in %appdata%
and hitting Enter. Locate the osu! folder, where the beat maps are stored.
Backing up / Restoring files
From %appdata%
you can navigate to the osu! folder and copy the songs and skins folders to your new PC or backup location.
When you open Osu! on the new PC, you may see a message that a change was detected in the beat maps folder. To fix this, simply click on the big osu! button, play solo, and then hit F5
and “Let’s do it”. This will process all the files and your songs should be back to how you expect them to be.
Conclusion
While there is no official way to backup and restore your osu! library, you can still copy the beat maps directly from one PC to another by navigating to the osu! folder in the appdata directory and copying the songs and skins folders. This will allow you to restore your library on a new PC or backup your library for future use.
