Who is this for?
Are you an avid gamer who loves to share your gameplay clips with friends and the gaming community? If so, you’re probably familiar with software like Nvidia Shadowplay, OBS, and Discord Nitro. While these tools serve their purpose, they can be complex and lack certain features. But fear not, because Steelseries Moments has arrived to revolutionize the way you capture and share your gameplay clips!
This user-friendly software will take your gameplay clips to the next level. From automatic clipping to editing and sharing. So, let’s dive in and explore the exciting world of Steelseries Moments!
What is SteelSeries Moments?
Steelseries Moments is a powerful software that allows gamers to capture, trim, edit, and share their gameplay clips with ease. Whether you’re a content creator, a competitive gamer, or simply want to relive your epic gaming moments, Steelseries Moments has all the features you need. The best part? You don’t even need to own any Steelseries hardware to use this fantastic tool. It’s completely free for everyone!
Getting started
If you have SteelSeries GG installed, you already have this software on your PC! Otherwise, head across to the SteelSeries Moments website, and download the software.
Follow the prompts, and you’ll be in-app in no time.
Auto-clipping
Auto-clipping is probably one of the most stand-out features of the software. When you’re playing any game, it’ll automatically clip exciting moments for you to share a lady with your friends instead of you needing to remember to press your clip button in the moment.
Supported Games
The list of supported games is massive, and will grow with time. At the time of writing there is:
Apex Legends, Brawlhalla, Call of Duty, Counter-Strike 2, Destiny 2, Diablo IV, Dota 2, Escape From Tarkov, Fall Guys, Fortnite, Genshin Impact, League of Legends, Overwatch 2, Rocket League, and Valorant.
Each game has it’s unique auto-clip events such as Headshots, Round Wins, Clutches, Multi-kills and many more.
Optimizing Capture Settings
Steelseries Moments offers a range of options that allow you to fine-tune your recording experience. Let’s explore some of the key settings you should pay attention to:
Automatic Gameplay Capture
This is the main event, and what you’d want to make sure you have enabled.
Open the Settings for Moments
Then, make sure Auto-clipping is enabled under the Auto-clip menu
Capture Settings
It’s important to note that you can change capture settings to improve gameplay capture on the main screen, by clicking the down arrow next to WAITING FOR GAME TO CAPTURE
(or the game you’re in’s name).
On the other side you are able to change clip duration, video quality, resolution and FPS. By default the FPS is set to 30. If you change nothing but one option: this should be it. Set FPS to 60, and consider upping quality if you have a more powerful computer.
Microphone settings
Assuming you have windows that are properly with your default microphone and headphones ticked, then capture will work seamlessly. Otherwise you can open up settings and set your microphone and recording devices yourself.
Click Settings
in the bottom-left and head to the Capture and Sound
tab. Scolling down you’ll see AUDIO
settings where you can choose an AUDIO
(game audio), CHAT DEVICE
(Discord audio output, for example), and MICROPHONE INPUT
. Set these accordingly.
Clip hotkey
Bound climbs will automatically be saved. It’s a good idea to double check what your clipping hotkey is. If you’d like to manually save something.
You can find this hotkey in the extreme top-right of your window.
Editing your clips
Once you’ve captured some funny or interesting moments, you’ll find them appear on the old clips section of moments. The landing page.
Click the video preview section of a clip in order to open U the editor in here you can trim the clip:
You can change the volume of your game audio, microphone and chat (Discord, etc) after the fact. The chat audio will only be seperated if you set up another audio output device, or use the built-in SteelSeries Sonar to seperate audio outputs.
Adding pizzazz
You can add GIFs and text to spice up your clips! Click the Add Effects
button in the bottom-left, and a popup appears:
You can then reposition and resize your GIFs and text by clicking and dragging it around, or dragging the edges.
You can change the timing of your GIF by shortening or lengthening it, as well as moving it to play sooner or earlier in the timeline at the bottom of the editing window.
Exporting your clips
There are two ways of sharing your clips. The first is saving a video, and the second is uploading directly to different platforms.
Exporting as videos
To make it easier for the end user and for sharing online, all you need to do is pick a target file size and the video quality will automatically adjust itself. 2 best match that size.
This makes it very easy.
Sharing clips
You can share your clips after exporting them, or you can upload them directly to different platforms. When you use this share club option, it’ll have a watermark by default.
Returning later
Once you’ve created your masterpiece and shared it, you can close Moments.
The next time you open up your clip, it’ll still have your editable timeline, allowing you to adjust it afterwards.
Final thoughts
This is honestly an amazing piece of software.
Personally, I’ve used OBS Studio and Premiere Pro, or, more recently, DaVinci Resolve, in order to edit out small clips of gameplay, funny moments and more to share with friends via Discord.
This method is great and all, but does add many more steps. SteelSeries Moments automates most of what I’d be doing manually anyway, recording and editing a long video, and simplifies it.
This is definitely a tool I’ll leave installed and use whenever I’m playing a game with friends. It’s super powerful.
